Mercedes-Benz 615 D Vario

With heavy hearts, we are parting with our "Jumbo" and hope it finds a good home. It is based on a 6.20m Mercedes Vario 615D with a high roof and the 4.2-liter truck engine (152 hp) without a DPF and AdBlue! (making it virtually indestructible and usable with any fuel), with 155,000 km and a massive 600 Nm of torque. Thanks to the 6-speed gearbox with a long gear ratio, you can travel very comfortably at up to 110 km/h. Inclines don't impress it in the slightest. The vehicle also features cruise control, a retarder, and an evaporator air conditioning system that can be operated in standalone mode, saving energy. A reversing camera assists with maneuvering.

The vehicle is equipped with an off-road chassis (overall height approx. 3.20m). The shock absorbers (custom-made) are specifically tuned for the vehicle as a camper. With a weight of 4.2 tons in travel-ready condition, there is still plenty of reserve for additional payload (permissible 5.99 tons).

The vehicle was consistently designed for long-distance travel. Everything is easy to reach and repair and is largely self-explanatory.

In the rear, there is a 1.35m double bed from which the second auxiliary heater can be operated. Under the bed is a rear garage; the gas bottle and the 150-liter water tank are also located here. In addition, the outdoor shower is connected here.

The kitchen features a 2-burner gas stove and an absorption refrigerator. The dining table can be lowered and then serves as a lounge area.

The onboard electronics run on 12 volts with a Liontron LiFePO battery. This is powered by 100-watt solar panels (expansion prepared) and a charging booster.

There is a small bathroom with a chemical toilet. Grey water is stored in a tank with an electric drain valve.

The passenger seat can be rotated 180 degrees if required. The ISRI driver's seat is spring-mounted. The vehicle is registered for 2 seats. However, converting it to three seats is relatively easy.

The cab contains another auxiliary heater and the air conditioning system.

In recent years, we have replaced many parts: tires, brakes, batteries, air reservoir, auxiliary tank... the list is long, well over 10,000 euros and fills a good Leitz folder. Technically and in terms of rust, it is in really excellent and comprehensively refurbished condition. The superstructure could still use some care (see rear light). Nevertheless, it needs permanent maintenance:

The second auxiliary heater and the pumping system from the second diesel tank have not been working reliably since the last season. I suspect that the intake hose has slipped or become kinked.

In addition, one of the two roof windows may need to be re-sealed again. However, it is currently patched and sealed.
